Good Ol' Xanga Days
It really isn't a fair statement to say to someone that is still on xanga or newly onto xanga.
It would be similar to telling me that the food I am eating now at my favorite restaurant use to be 100 times better.
It just doesn't make me feel good.
I have been on xanga for quite some time now, and I have been heavily involved for about 5 years now. I have had my fair share of xanga meets, late night camming on zombies day after day, bunchedup.tv, and even had a couple of could have been moments with a couple of xangans.
But these are the statements, I have heard from time to time when I meet up with the OG's:
"I used to blog when Michelle Phan and that guy from WongFu use to blog."
"I used to blog when there were hella fine azn bitches everywhere you can meet up with."
"All the good xangans have left."
"Xanga is dead."This makes me sad because one I would have love me my aZn females and two if all the good xangans left, why am I still here? By default, I have to leave just to be considered good.
What makes companies and nations great are its people and I think communities change over time. To me, I wish I could see the same familiar faces and read the words of my old favorites again and again, but I guess this is a transitional space and if I choose to stay here, I have to continue to make those connections with new people.
All in all, there are still a good amount of people holding down the fort with good writing and awesome comments to one another. You know who you are. Thank you.
Don't leave me.
Vy came to visit from Austrailia. Some of the local Norcal Xangans met up with her. Good times even though I didn't stay to eat at Boiling Crab. Had time to snag a picture with these lovely ladies. #luckyguy

Many good Xangans left, but not all of them did. Important distinction.
The older group of Xangans got married to each other or got super busy. The problem is, Xanga didn't do anything to keep a steady supply of new crop coming in, and so, as the older ones left, nobody was filling in to replace them. If anything, Xanga should have rebranded itself when it started to go downhill. Now it's past the point of no return and only a matter of time before it goes offline.
Well said. Xanga has changed, but not all changes are bad. I do really miss seeing some of my old favorites, but I have been lucky to have met a new batch of really great Xangans this past year. They know who they are.
hehe
maybe i'll just buy xanga one day and turn it around... haha, there's a thought.
Lucky indeed
The thing is Xanga has become real life to most of us (especially those of you who have met up) so even if Xanga 'dies' or whatever it's legacy remains with the friendships/relationships it helped build.
10 or so years from now "So how did you guys meet?" "Ah this website called Xanga"
i miss those days too. i went to a couple of meets and was on XZ frequently the summer of 2010...
I've quit xanga lik 6x but there was always something pulling me back. i was about to quit this one and i thought i'm probably going to make one again so might as well wait for this feeling of wanting to leave go away
Forget people who say that it's dead. What are we, zombies?! My first blogging site was Xanga, back when I was so young, I barely knew what the internet was and I had to lie about my age to make an account. I left Xanga for myspace when it was all the hype. Realizing how dumb and meaningless myspace was, a popularity contest and breeding ground for superficial socializing, I came back here.
To me, Xanga is the place where I can always sit down quietly and say whatever I want. I don't have to worry about being scandalized. I feel safe, knowing I'm not being judged. Subscribers and commenters are here because they care, not because the site is popular and "everyone" is on it. I have made wonderful friends here, loyal to what they believe in, not to what they think others think is the best.
It is what you make of it. Sometimes people don't have good experiences. That can come with any social networking site. Maybe we ARE still here, maybe we just don't sell ourselves and broadcast it out. We are quiet but we have substance.
lol a few have left that Ihave to keep up with seperately. I'm not chasinga xanagan so in that respect the place isn't AS exciting this instant. I am not seekingto meet anyone this particular instant so again it isn't AS exciting... I meet people I never knew and have grown in who I would say is a quality friend I look forward to chattering with... so in that respect xanga isn't dead for meand not all the good ones have left!
lol. -
i agree about happyobligations
and perhaps yosho will buy it and turn it around LMAO
Xanga is my "dear diary" self reflections
I dunno I kinda like xanga being the 'quiet space' if I wanted all my stuff exposed, I should twitter and fb it
I've made too made so many great friends here and I'll always love it
A good entry this one. The thing is is this, most of the good people are still here somewhere and I met many of them - with many different nationalities, personalities, identities, creativities and in mentality as well. I have just been here for a few weeks now because the need to find a good diary or blog sites. I really love Xangan site much - having fun here too as well.
The WHY the many good Xangan leaves is that there also too many haters here. The other day, someone already declare war with me just because he hates of where I come from. And he started spreading hates to the others of my fellow friends as well and spreading hate messages and even hate links to us here ...
I can understand why many had left. Anyway, everyone knows that the world of the internet has its darker side ... Even if we are here appearing digitally online, but in reality is that life is just an accident to some ...
Well, for as long as they are many good people here, then I stay ... if not, the world does not end with it ...
my friends get shocked when they find out I still use it.
Well, I only recently kind of returned, but it seems so did quite a bit of the Xangans I love.
By the nature of Xanga and every other blogging site, there is an ebb and flow of who is here, who is involved, and how much. It still seems to be a very vibrant place, though, and the composition of the community changes over time but remains very strong.
@coolmonkey - Coolmonkey, I completely agree with you and I wanted to let you know although I do not always leave comments, you are one of the bloggers on xanga that are always dishing out high quality thoughts and blogs. I appreciate your blog and wanted to let you know. In other news, share some of the asian girls that you have. Seems like all the girls be on your jock lolz
@Yosho - How about you just grace us with your presence every two weeks. There's a thought. Miss you bro. Continue to do big things.
@happyobligations - <3
i just saw your blog on xangas home page, so i decided to check it out. i believed xanga was dead, yet i continued to hold onto mine. just the other day i logged in, and now i have completely revamped my site. i used to use it as a crying outreach program, or just to blow out my mind for all to see, but now.....i think i have a purpose for it. the more tendrils i put out into the web, the more avenues for people to see what i have going on in my life. i might just keep up on with what you are doing on here, take care.
It was lovely to see you for those few short moments! I need too learn how to take better photos!
There are still many great xangans around.
